Bronx native Katherine Tejada was on the fast track to the journalism career she always dreamed of.

The 20-year-old Bronx resident - editor-in-chief of her high-school paper - took the first step toward the newsroom last year, when she enrolled at Borough of Manhattan Community College with the help of the state's Tuition Assistance Program for low- and middle-income students.

The aid covered the $1,400-per-semester tuition.

But her aspirations are now on hold.

"We'll see what happens," she said.

She said other students are also worried, and said, "It's on everyone's minds. People are nervous."
