A wealthy widow long suspected of ordering the murder of her millionaire husband 18 years ago is one step closer to being charged after prosecutors subpoenaed her divorce attorney, The Post has learned.

Prosecutors are hoping to get the breakthrough they need when Barbara Kogan's divorce attorney, Richard Golub, finally testifies before a grand jury this week, according to sources.

The Manhattan DA has long believed that Barbara Kogan, 64, hired a hit man to kill her husband, George Kogan, outside his mistress' East 69th Street apartment building on Oct. 23, 1990, according to court records.

So far, uncooperative witnesses and jurisdictional roadblocks have thwarted the investigation.

There could be yet another snag.

Kogan's current lawyer, Barry Levin, has promised to block Golub from testifying, citing attorney-client confidentiality.
