North Korea wants to press ahead with the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, but it is strengthening its "self-defensive capability" in the face of hostile US policy, an official said yesterday.
The comment came as Chris Hill, the US nuclear envoy for North Korea, prepared to visit Pyongyang in the coming days to try to salvage the crumbling six-party negotiation.
The UN International Atomic Energy Agency said last week that Pyongyang was expelling monitors from its plutonium plant , rolling back a disarmament-for-aid deal.
