If Cruzan's new Guava Rum has a target demographic, it's college kids wasting away on hurricanes, pina coladas and Bahama Mamas in Wildwood. Unfortunately, this new liquor - billed as "first-ever guava-flavored spirit" - comes off like a schnapps knockoff. Sure, it could work fine as a twist on a brunch beverage - say, a mojito. But Cruzan's recipes that mix it with fruit juices are too rich, no matter how complementary the flavors would seem. You may be tempted to ready the little cocktail umbrellas, but even a beach, co-eds and a cabana boy won't make this booze worth the sugary hangover.
