AND I am telling you that collar is not working. The only thing more awkward than fashion giant Andre Leon Talley insistently calling Jennifer Hudson the "People's Princess" at the Oscars pre-show over and over again? The insane outfit that he styled her in: a metallic python bolero over a floor-length brown gown by Oscar de la Renta.

Yes, you read that right. A metallic python bolero.

Paired with that brown dress, it was snakes on a plain. It was Ming the Merciless (inset) meets "Battlefield Earth." It was, as humorist Andy Borowitz notes, like a "rejected design for the Freedom Tower."

Our favorite comedians put it all in perspective:

"This was the first totally 'green' Oscars, so it makes sense to wear a solar panel."

- Chuck Nice, performing at Comix on Friday and Saturday

"Her collar was the only thing at the Oscars that was bigger than Al Gore."

- Andy Borowitz, author of Borowitzreport.com and host of the monthly "Andy Borowitz Show" at Mo Pitkin's

"That collar was clearly a shout-out by Jennifer to her favorite breakfast treat: Count Chocula cereal."

- Doug Benson, performing "The Benson Interruption" at UCB Theater on Friday at midnight

"Who knew Saran Wrap had a couture line?"

- Caroline Waxler, monthly co-host of "Le Chucklé Hut" at Paris Commune

"Jennifer is expressing her cultural background. She is one quarter 'Munster.'"

- Seth Herzog, host of Sweet at the Slipper Room every Thursday

"It was a good choice of collar. After the show it transformed into a 'copter and took her home."

- Baron Vaughn, performing in the D.C. Comedy Festival in April

"People of Earth ... your weapons are useless."

- Helen Hong, host of Comedy Combo #3 at Mo Pitkin's every Saturday
