Residential Murray Hill -- often criticized for being bland and boring -- has gone upscale.
Recently, the nabe has become a haven for Long Island's post-college set, many of whom share apartments -- and are often supported by their parents -- in the area's high-rise doorman buildings. On weekends, they can be found watching football at a bar on Third Ave. or padding back-and-forth to one another's apartments.
But increasingly this, er, class is finding itself pushed out by wealthier and older residents. No, not the grannies who used to live in Murray Hill -- before the "Animal House" crowd moved in -- but established, professional residents.
Like elsewhere in Manhattan, new condos are drawing well-heeled residents to the 'hood. The 190-unit Charleston (225 E. 34th St.), which opened in 2007, had studios for about $600,000 and three-bedrooms for $1.5 million. Other new buildings include Vetro (107 E. 31st St., with one-bedrooms at about $500,000) and Twenty9th Park Madison (39 E. 29th St.)
In between the boxy high-rises lies an impressive array of brownstones. Good luck finding one, though -- they rarely hit the market.
