
Riverdale is sort of a mini-borough in the heart of The Bronx. Not what you typically think of when you think of The Bronx, Riverdale has lovely winding streets dotted with maple and oak trees.
The neighborhood is a mix of large single-family homes -- including mansions, Tudors and Colonials -- attached stone homes, affordable co-ops and rentals. There are low and high-rise buildings mostly built in the 1960s and 1970s, although some are pre-war. Most are within walking distance to commercial districts.
Recently about a dozen new condos have popped up. At 20 stories, the Solaria is the tallest building in the neighborhood and features a rooftop telescope observatory. Apartment prices there reached just under $4 million. Another new building is Riverstone, where prices have hit $2 million.
