Drummer 's elevator leap ends in death

An indie-band drummer from Brooklyn fell to his death today after trying to leap from a freight elevator at a tony Williamsburg fund-raiser, police said.

Jerry Fuchs, 34, who drummed for West Coast dance-punk band !!! (pronounced "chk chk chk") and the Georgia-based psychedelic instrumental ensemble Maserati, tumbled five stories shortly after 12:30 a.m. inside 338 Berry St., cops said.

"It's a manual freight elevator, and it stopped somewhere above the fifth floor," said Buildings Department spokesman Tony Sclafani.

Sources said Fuchs and his pal opened the elevator door and attempted to jump the 3 to 4 feet separating the elevator from the fifth floor.

Jerry Fuchs, 34, fell down this shaft after the elevator became stuck during a party at a Williamsburg loft early this morning.

The friend landed safely, but a piece of Fuchs' clothing caught on the elevator, causing him to be yanked backward as he jumped, sending him swinging back into the crevice separating the elevator from the fifth floor.

He fell and landed at the bottom of the shaft. He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he died at 3:30 a.m.

The drummer had been attending a formal-dress, invite-only benefit to raise money for women in India, sources said.

Fuchs is the second Maserati drummer to meet a tragic end. In 2005, then-drummer Mikel Gius was run down and killed as he rode his bike on a Sacramento street.

Gotta take a swipe at a guy who just suffered a horrific death? Somehow I doubt your life is that great if you're taking the time to criticize his. Judging from your screen name, I imagine you sit around watching basketball, living your life vicariously through players who could care less about you.

in fact ANTILIB.. . seriously... there is no joke intended here... i will take the time to make you understand how much of a re re you really are. it does not matter that you sit behind your keyboard and rant stupidity. none of us will ever know exactly who you are.. we really do not need to know who you are. the fact that your r.e.t.a.r.d.e.d mind pitifully belongs to you will do just fine. it is not us who have to live knowing how stupid you are.. it is you who has to do that!!! this truth in itself must be weighing misery upon you!!! say what you want... but when your alone... it is you, and god, who knows this truth about your miserable, pathetic self! you see.. it doesn't matter to me or anyone else.. i am just simply taking the pleasure to stick your misery further up your a.2.2 with my words! just what have you done for anyone, that should be considered credible? absolutely nothing!! most miserable people don't. you sit there with the audacity to call this musician a re re upon his death? yes you do! well it is a fact this musician was taking part in a fund raiser to help indian woman whom he doesn't even personally know. that is heroic and unselfish.. that is the type of people i commend. that is a person who sets a primary example for the young people to look upon as a mentor. someone who should be praised for his unselfish contribution to help others. he is a hero upon those who can appreciate him. may god bless his soul! the fact that i have recognized his colored efforts to be someone who was doing positive things in this world... i now ask.. what is it exactly, do you do to contribute a positive flame with your time on earth? well... there really is no need for me to ask.. we all know you no longer have to hide behind your key board anymore.. you will be looking into the mirror many more times, and see the miserable pathetic individual, that GOD and yourself knows you to be.. godd luck re re!!!!!
